About Our Programs

Master's Degree Programs at UC Davis Extension

The University of California created a new policy in 1996 to encourage campuses "…to extend their academic offerings to new groups of students in new ways.” The policy provided guidance for developing new self-supporting, part-time graduate professional degree programs. Through this new policy the university affirmed its role in serving the rapidly changing educational needs of working professionals by providing post-graduate degree programs in flexible, convenient formats tailored to the needs of working adults.

University of California Extension has been encouraged to work with UC faculty, schools and colleges to identify and address specific needs for such new programs. The new UC policy cited UC Extension’s skills in market research and academic and fiscal management, and the extensive experience of our organization in developing and delivering programs that address the needs of adult learners.

UC Davis Extension has worked with the Academic Senate, the Graduate Division, and several graduate groups over the past ten years to develop and present four self-supporting master’s degree programs - currently the largest number of such programs offered by any of the UC campuses.
