Ordering Textbooks

Do I need to buy a textbook for my course?

To determine if you will need to purchase a textbook or not review the course information on the Web or in the catalog. If you are responsible for purchasing a textbook prior to the start of the course there will be an entry titled "required textbooks" that will provide all of the information you'll need to purchase the textbook on your own: title, author and ISBN number.

For some courses the textbook will be sold at the first meeting of the class. If this is the case, it will be noted in the course listing with the fee information.

Many other courses include all course materials in the course fee. If this is the case, it will be noted with the fee information.

How to order your textbook

If the course you are taking has a required textbook listed, you are responsible for purchasing it prior to the first class meeting.

Some courses will list recommended textbooks. You are not required to purchase these books, they are listed as additional sources of information if you are interested.

If you plan to order your book online we recommend that you order 2-3 weeks in advance to ensure that you have the book for the first meeting of the class.

Prices can vary widely so we suggest that you comparison shop before purchasing your textbooks.

You can purchase your book from a variety of sources including:

• The UC Davis Bookstore in Sacramento. Call them at (916) 734-3452 or visit them at 2270 Stockton Blvd in Sacramento.
• Any commercial bookstore in your area should either stock the textbook you are looking for or be able to special order it for you.
• Online bookstores are also an option. Try one of the comparison-shopping sites like bestbookbuys.com or bigwords.com that will search multiple sources and give you the best possible price.
