Aviation Safety Management School

The need for properly maintained aircraft and adequately prepared personnel is critical to responding safely and avoiding mishaps in emergency aviation situations. Increasing concerns about the structural health of U.S. firefighting aircraft and all emergency response aircraft have led to the creation of a new school—The Aviation Safety Management School. Developed by an advisory board consisting of university, governmental and private industry experts from NASA's Ames Research Center, the U.S. Forest Service, American Helicopter Services and Aerial Firefighting Association, the University of California, Davis College of Engineering, the UC Davis Office of Research, and UC Davis Extension.

This state-of-the-art school utilizes recently developed technology and the most up-to-date response techniques and strategies in the industry. Developed by some of the top minds in emergency response aviation, these unique courses provide the leadership and practical skills necessary to respond efficiently and safely in any emergency situation. Fall 2005 marked the opening of the school with a seven-course certificate program in Emergency Response Aviation Safety Management. Additional courses focusing on monitoring aircraft for condition-based maintenance and decision-making processes will also be offered. All classes will deliver world-class training with instructors who are recognized for their specific expertise in each topic area.

The Aviation Safety Management School utilizes the U.S. Forest Service's ultra-modern Aerial Simulation Center and the technologically-advanced aeronautical services located at McClellan Park (formerly McClellan Air Force Base), California.
