
Professional Concentration in Equine Event Management
Equestrian sport in the United States is a multi-billion dollar industry that continues to grow in popularity and participation. With more than 2,700 United States Equestrian Federation (USEF)-sanctioned horse shows and competitions produced each year, there is growing demand for knowledgeable, skilled professionals who can organize and run successful, safe horse shows.
In partnership with the USEF, UC Davis Extension has developed this program to expand the opportunities for those engaged in the exciting field of equestrian sport.

- Examine the elements involved in designing and managing successful horse shows—from securing licensing through execution and evaluation.
- Explore the planning and logistics processes for equestrian competitions.
- Learn about safety and risk management, venue and facilities management, marketing and public relations, conflict resolution and working within the regulatory requirements of the governing bodies of equestrian sport.
- Examine what it takes to run a successful horse show.
- Gain practical experience in equine event management as an intern with a USEF-recognized horse show.

This program benefits volunteer show managers at the grass-roots level, those hoping to enter the field, and professionals already involved in equestrian sport who wish to improve the quality of their events. The program covers all USEF requirements for certification of competitions.
Professional Concentration Requirements
Courses may be taken individually or as part of the Professional Concentration. Tuition for the entire Professional Concentration in Equine Event Management is $1,995. The Professional Concentration application fee ($45) and textbooks are not included in the tuition fee.

The United States Equestrian Federation is the governing body for equestrian sport in the U.S and represents 28 breeds and disciplines. In this first-ever online course, you will examine the elements involved in designing and managing successful horse shows-from securing licensing through execution and evaluation. Explore the planning and logistics processes for equestrian competitions. Learn about safety and risk management, venue and facilities management, marketing and public relations, conflict resolution and working within the regulatory requirements of the governing bodies of equestrian sport.

Competition Management: Horse Show Secretary
2 quarter units academic credit, X445.1.
The horse show business is a multi-billion dollar industry and growing. The U.S. Equestrian Federation, the governing body for national equestrian sport, sanctions more than 3,000 shows each year. This course examines the role of horse show secretary—a position that is critical to running a successful show.
Horse show secretaries are responsible for the planning and operation of shows and need skills in the areas of finance, recordkeeping, reporting and people management, all of which impact a show's success and the accurate placement and ranking of athletes. This course examines the cycle of the horse show secretary's role--from creating show bills and prize lists to entries and reporting. Learn to work with governing bodies, interpret various sets of rules and manage people within the USEF guidelines.
