
Specialized Studies Program in Sports Marketing
The multi-billion dollar sports industry is fueled by marketing and sponsorship revenues, so most jobs within the industry are directly tied to marketing and selling the sports experience. This three-course program focuses on what you need to know to enter and succeed in this exciting field. You will learn to develop targeted marketing pitches, craft public relations strategies that raise awareness, and gain the ability to research and develop sponsorship proposals. This program culminates with an internship where you can apply what you’ve learned within a real-world context.

Build a successful integrated marketing campaign, and people will show up to your sporting event. In this course, you will learn how to develop and implement successful sporting event promotions, and advertising and public relations campaigns. You will gather insight into how to obtain the most value for your marketing dollar by using the most appropriate marketing strategies for your event, including print, electronic and other advertising media.
Become more media savvy: analyze, establish and implement a public relations strategy using video and audio news releases. Incorporate email and electronic media as part of your integrated marketing plan. Learn how to measure the success of your marketing campaign.

Power Partnerships: Sponsorship and Cause Marketing for Sports

Creating and maintaining strategic partnerships between your sports business and the community is an essential component of the sports marketing and public relations mix. Focus on developing a winning sponsorship proposal.
Explore the common types of sports business/community partnerships, their benefits, the legal issues involved in creating sponsorships and what successful sponsorships look like. Cause-related marketing, as a specialized form of sponsorship, is featured. Learn to effectively use this vehicle to benefit sporting and philanthropic causes.

If you have already taken the UC Davis Extension Marketing and Media Relations and the Power Partnership: Sponsorship and Cause Marketing for Sports courses, this class will provide the practical skills to apply what you've learned from them.
You will intern with a sports organization and gain hands-on experience in sports marketing and learn to develop sponsorships in the "real world." This course is only available to UC Davis Extension students, and there are a minimum of 90 hours required to complete your internship.

Marketing and Media Relations for Sports, Power Partnerships: Sponsorship and Cause Marketing for Sports.
