
Energy Management: Supply
Learn to conduct market assessments and to develop sourcing and procurement strategies. Topics include energy management control systems, natural gas purchasing opportunities in the spot market, thermal energy storage, alternative energy supplies, energy security and energy trading. Explore reliability and risk analysis methods, financing projects and tax considerations as well as strategic planning, cogeneration and the options, costs, benefits and constraints of "green sourcing."

Instructor(s):
Carolyn Kehrein has been involved in the deregulation and procurement of energy in California for two decades. Her areas of expertise include procurement of supplies, analysis of energy contracts, development of client specific procurement strategies, market design, analysis of performance and impact on procurement strategies, negotiation with suppliers and utilities, cogeneration and power sales issues, negotiations with utilities and service providers, and regulatory intervention. In addition to being co-chair of the California Public Utilities Commission's Direct Access Working Group, she was on the corporate governing board for the California Independent System Operator and the California Power Exchange, serving as chair of the finance committee for both boards. Prior to establishing a consulting practice, Ms. Kehrein worked for Procter & Gamble for 10 years. At Procter & Gamble, she was responsible for operation of the cogeneration facility, overseeing cogeneration commercial issues and contracts, analyzing and recommending changes to utility applications and tariffs, setting and executing strategies to maximize benefit in the ever-changing regulatory environment and procuring a reliable supply of natural gas at least-cost for the facility. Both of her degrees are from UC Davis.
