2009 Child Mental Health Seminar Series: Circle of Security 9-Day Intensive Training
This nine-day intensive program introduces participants to a systematic treatment strategy for interventions based upon the Circle of Security (COS) diagnostic system. Intended for psychologists, counselors, childcare professionals, educators and healthcare professionals, the training uses lecture, video review, small group learning modules and a final evaluation process to enable participants to build proficiency in the COS intervention protocol.
Participants will:
- explore underlying key defensive personality strategies of parents
- consider differential diagnosis and differential treatment
- utilize the Circle of Security Interview (COSI) as a way to understand and track defensive strategies
- practice observation skills for making behavioral descriptions of coherence, self and object representations, and emotion regulation strategies
- build inferential skills to link observations to co-regulation themes
- understand the interface between the COSI and the Strange Situation Procedure (SSP)
- understand lynchpin treatment issues for each personality style
- participate in small group viewing and in-depth explorations of an SSP and COSI for particular parent/child dyads
- view and discuss parent responses to treatment
- view SSP and COSI of a particular dyad and develop a treatment plan, parent personality profile and treatment approach
Note: This training alone does not fulfill requirements for certification for the Circle of Security Protocol. To complete certification after the nine-day program, arrangements must be made directly with Circle of Security.
