College Admissions Advising: A
Applying
for college can be an overwhelming task for students and parents. Help
ease the process by equipping yourself with the knowledge and skills to
serve as a trusted guide and resource. Gain a macro-level view of
college admissions and the role of the college counselor in supporting
students and their families throughout the process.
Topics include:
- The college admissions process and timeline
- The range of college options
- Testing schedules
- Transcript analysis
- Components of an exemplary application
Prerequisite:
This program is open to anyone interested; however, those wishing to obtain the certificate must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, have completed an application for candidacy and paid the application fee.
Instructor(s):
Scott Hamilton, B.A., has operated Future Stars College Counseling Center in Sacramento since 1998. He's spent years researching the college admissions process, touring hundreds of college campuses and attending numerous professional conferences. Hamilton has assisted more than 700 families increase their chances for success in the highly competitive college admissions process and has developed a reputation as an effective communicator, teacher and mentor.
Lynne De Bie is a counselor at Dixon High School and was appointed to the California Student Aid Commission in 2008. De Bie was an inaugural member of the University of California Office of the President High School Counselors Advisory Council. She has served as a chairperson and committee member on several Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation visitation teams and is a member of the California School Counselors Association, Dixon Teachers Association, California Teachers Association and the National Educators Association.
