Forensic Drawing Techniques
This intensive three-day course in forensic art is designed for portrait artists who are looking to expand their skills and to assist law enforcement agencies. Through hands-on exercises, the artist will learn techniques to successfully draw a composite sketch from an eyewitness account and complete a postmortem facial reconstruction from photos of real cadavers.
Facial anatomy is discussed in detail to enable the student to recognize the structural differences between sex, age and various racial backgrounds and how these differences affect the accuracy of the finished sketch. Interviewing techniques and memory recall methods are covered through practical exercises, putting the student in both the roles of the interviewer and interviewee. Courtroom testimony will also be discussed.
Students will work in pencil but other mediums and materials will also be explored. Upon completion of this class, the student will have a better understanding of the human face and the ability to assist law enforcement agencies in identifying people.
