Certificate Program in Workplace Health and Safety
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 4 million occupational injuries and illnesses in the private sector in 2007.
Workplace injuries and illnesses cost U.S. businesses billions of dollars each year in lost productivity, increased health care premiums, lawsuits and damaged equipment. Fines from OSHA for noncompliance with workplace health and safety laws have increased in recent years, with the heaviest fines charged to those businesses ignoring the most basic regulations. If you are responsible for employee health and safety at your workplace, it may be time to expand your knowledge of current health and safety issues and regulations, and learn to create and maintain a safer work environment.
Gain practical knowledge that matters
- Expand and improve your knowledge of how to develop staff expertise in health and safety management.
- Examine the critical safety and health issues of private business, industry and government.
- Acquire the ability to establish and manage a proactive health and safety program.
- Learn how industries are regulated and how to apply industrial hygiene principles.

testimonials
"I had the opportunity to switch careers in mid-life and jumped into a position in health and safety. I was pleased to see that the UC Davis Extension had a Certificate Program in Workplace Health and Safety. In just more than a year, I completed the certificate program, which gave me an excellent foundation in the technical and practical aspects of EHS. This base gave me the confidence to develop in my new position and, after a couple of more years of on-the-job experience, I qualified and passed the Certified Safety Professional exam. Since that time I have been promoted to the position of manager of Corporate EHS. I believe that much of my success is the result of the excellence of this program."
