About our Programs

The Green Building and Sustainable Design program was created to address the emerging trend of developing healthier communities through sustainable design, and by defining effective ways to utilize energy and water.

This unique program combines elements from architecture, civil engineering, landscape architecture, environmental and land use planning and construction management. You will develop successful strategies for implementation of green building and sustainable design into site planning and design, building design and construction, and building management practices.

This new program is a joint project between two of UC Davis Extension's most successful programs, Land Use and Natural Resources and Business and Management. This partnership, along with our commitment to designing curriculum in alignment with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, continues a tradition of innovation and responsibility when creating programs.

How you will benefit

You will gain an in-depth understanding of the processes of incorporating social, economic and environmental issues into the planning, design, and construction of commercial and residential sites. The program will cover a variety of issues, including site analysis, construction management, water resources planning and landscape architecture.

Who should attend

The program is geared for the planner, landscape architect, developer or contractor interested in the implementation of sustainable building tools and strategies. It is also recommended for professionals moving into fields that require knowledge of gree building or sustainable design, or anyone who recognizes the emerging importance of sustainable design and its impact on our daily life.
