Pathobiology of the Mouse: Part A


Enhance your capacity to design and support biomedical research using genetically engineered mice. Suitable for scientists at all levels, this is the first in a two-part series primarily intended for technical personnel who support biomedical research and need to understand the animals they are handling as well as how to assist biomedical researchers in characterizing mice. This distinctive online course offers a multi-sensory experience that integrates lectures, interactive tools and digitized whole slide images.

Taught by Robert Cardiff, M.D., Ph.D., a distinguished professor of pathology at UC Davis and director of the Center for Genomic Pathology, this course covers a variety of topics, including:

  • History of the laboratory mouse
  • Mouse husbandry, regulations and laboratory accreditation
  • Normal gross anatomy
  • Normal mouse histology
  • General pathology
This course is supported by a national scientific advisory board and a faculty of experts in the field.

Prerequisite:

A Bachelor's degree, capability of passing an online histology examination and command of the English language. Experience in general laboratory techniques is highly recommended.

Instructor(s):

Robert Cardiff, M.D., Ph.D., is a distinguished professor of pathology at the UC Davis School of Medicine, founding member of the Center for Comparative Medicine and director of the Center for Genomic Pathology. Awarded numerous teaching honors, his research interests include genomic pathology and tumor biology. He currently chairs the International Association for Breast Cancer Research's Board of Governors.

Enroll now through Dec. 30, 2009. Passwords will be issued beginning Nov. 23, 2009. You will have 15 weeks after receiving your password to complete the course.
