- playing on an intramural sports team and playing against other UC Davis teams
Volunteer Experiences and Leadership Opportunities
Students can volunteer their time in community organizations—mostly schools and nonprofit organizations—where they can observe how people work together to achieve common goals. These experiences help students gain a deeper understanding of U.S. culture and society, as well as develop their leadership skills. Students must commit at least two hours of time each week to these organizations.
Activities
We provide a wide variety of daily social activities for our students, allowing you to become better acquainted with your fellow classmates, including:

- arts and crafts
- conversation groups
- sports, games and tournaments
- cultural potlucks and dances

Clubs offer a chance to share hobbies with the diverse student population. They also allow you to form lifelong friendships around a common interest. Our current clubs are:
- Movie Club
- Cooking Club
- Literature Club
- Videogame/Computer Club

Trips
Our optional day and overnight trips add to the overall California experience. The time spentaway from campus provides you with a more complete view of American life and culture. Trips include:
- hiking and observation of nature in Yosemite National Park
- visiting and learning about California history in Sacramento, the state's capital
- discovering the diversity of American culture in San Francisco
- experiencing Disneyland and Universal Studios in Los Angeles
- tasting world-famous California wines in the beautiful Napa Valley
- showing off athletic abilities while skiing and snowboarding at Lake Tahoe
- screaming on the roller-coasters at Six Flags Marine World
- rooting for your favorite team at an exciting Sacramento Kings NBA basketball game or a San Francisco Giants baseball game
Our Recreation Program Leaders (RPLs) guide students through these various activities and adventures. RPLs offer students unique perspectives on American culture and student life at UC Davis, as well as opportunities for lasting friendships.
If these activities, clubs and trips aren't for you, don't worry, this is just a sample of what we offer. We are always adding new activities and trips to reflect our students' interests. We can also assist you in planning your own trips.
