Financing International Transactions

August 2011

This program is designed for legal, business and accounting professionals from law firms, corporations, banking institutions, insurance companies and other legal and financial institutions engaged in transactions in the international market. Participants in the course will gain a broad array of knowledge and skills for advising clients in raising capital for international transactions. Participants will gain specific knowledge in specialized areas and will also focus on the elements of an international financial deal. The program will use analyses, case studies, simulations and other exercises to reinforce classroom presentations.

Program topics* include: raising capital in U.S. markets, investing capital in U.S. commercial markets, the role of taxes in international business decisions, international currency regulation, assessing rates of return on international investments, simulation of an international financial transaction, and research at the library and online using computer-based legal research.

*Topics subject to minor revision.

Financing International Transactions is offered every third year in rotation with two other specialized programs: Structuring an International Joint Venture (offered in 2009) and The Global Trading System, Substance and Dispute Resolution (offered in 2010). The Orientation in U.S.A. Law course is not a prerequisite for any of the specialized programs.
