Summer Programs for Individual Students


The Center for International Programs at the University of California, Davis Extension is proud to announce its three new Summer Programs for students ages 12-17. These unique programs are designed to provide youth with the latest knowledge and training in English and Culture (for non-native English speakers), Science and Technology, and College Preparation. We are committed to providing an attentive and enriching educational experience in a truly distinctive setting.

The three-week English and Culture program is perfect for international students wanting to improve their English language skills. The Science and Technology program helps students explore the latest technology and future technological possibilities. The College Preparation program lays the foundation to navigate the college search and admissions process. All instruction is in English.

Discounts apply when signing up for multiple programs. If applying for more than one program, you pay only one application fee. ($100 U.S.).

English and Culture (for non-native English speakers)

Students improve their English conversational skills and sharpen their listening skills while they learn American culture. They build their confidence as English speakers and have the opportunity to experience California culture. Paired with in-classroom instruction, students participate in activities and field trips.

Science and Technology

Students will enjoy hands-on learning and exploration during this one-week program. Students will visit a variety of science and technology related sites that may include the Intel Computer Museum, a Tour of Silicon Valley, the Tahoe Environmental Research Center (3-D visualization lab, virtual laboratory and research boat), various sites on the UC Davis and UC Berkeley campuses and the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. UC Davis is known for its state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories, so this experience has infinite possibilities.

College Preparation

Students learn to bridge the gap between high school and college. This program features interactive discussions with admission representatives, visits to colleges such as UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Stanford, and California State University, Sacramento. Students will learn how college Admissions decisions are made, how to select the right school and navigate through the application procedure. Students attend workshops in preparing college applications, how to market themselves to improve their chance of acceptance, the use of social media, instruction on writing their admissions essay, college survival techniques, and time management skills.

The leadership portion provides a unique opportunity for students to expand their individual strengths and interests with lectures and activities designed specifically to improve leadership qualities in a globalized world. Participants learn problem solving and decision making skills, team building, organizational and personal skills, and goal setting, all intended to foster more confidence.

The Youth Programs do not include housing, so please let us know if you need housing assistance. The Center for International Education Housing office can help you arrange housing.
