Our Story

It’s been nearly 50 years since UC Davis Extension set up shop in a temporary building on the UC Davis campus. Back then we offered courses mostly in teacher education and humanities.

From these humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a multi-faceted organization offering 4,000 courses with 60,000 enrollments annually. Reflecting the growth of the region and the state, our curriculum now spans many professions and disciplines—land use, sustainable design, winemaking, business and management, international law, education, human services, public health and more. And, our work has diversified to include custom training for organizations, collaborative dispute resolution, applied research and other professional services that engage the university in the broader community, connecting knowledge and practice.

Yet, what’s most inspiring about Our Story is the success of our students and faculty, whose desire to teach, learn and make a difference is the reason we exist. And, that’s why we created this site. It’s a place for our students, faculty and organizational partners to share their stories of impact through education.
