Coaching for Life and Work Certificate Program

Our transformative Professional Coaching for Life and Work Certificate Program prepares you to become certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF)--the only globally-recognized credential program for coaches. As one of the top 10 careers for the 2010s, coaching gives you the skills to make a visible, meaningful impact on the lives of others. Our program features:

  • MCC- and PCC-Credentialed Coaches as Instructors--Engaged working professional will teach you to develop and maintain coaching relationships
  • Exceptional Networking Opportunities--Interaction with faculty and a cohort of professional peers broadens and enriches the learning experience and career prospects
  • Real-World, Classroom-Based, Hands-On Learning--Class work, case studies and an assignment as a student coach offer relevant, dynamic and relational learning opportunities
  • ICF Accredited--Knowledge to apply for certification as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the ICF

We offer this five-month program twice a year, February-July and August-December.

ICF Accredited

This Accredited Coach Training Program is considered an “all inclusive” pathway to ICF PCC certification. Program features include: 150 academic credit hours of coach specific training; and mentor coaches who provide feedback on your coaching skill development to support you through your educational journey. UC Davis Extension will provide you with non-paying clients to jumpstart the coaching experience and performance evaluation process.

Estimated Cost:

Tuition for the entire program is $8,325—all inclusive (books, course materials, lunches and parking).

Requirements to enroll in this program are five years of professional work experience (in any field); an interest in working with people and helping others; and a mindset that supports success in the program, namely openness to learning through feedback and self-examination.

Program outline

Coaching Essentials

Learn to develop coaching relationships that provide continued structure for progress and growth. Gain knowledge of coaching ethics and how to apply them in a variety of situations.

Coaching Skills

Increase your understanding of the common elements of listening effectively to your clients. Learn to identify preferred language, and how the type, timing and impact of a coach’s questioning differs from typical conversation.

Personal Foundation for Coaching

Focus on the outer presentation "package" of your clients by learning to identify and eliminate some of their most immediate roadblocks to personal growth.

Coaching Conversation

Learn to structure a session and keep your clients on message and on track. Acquire the tools to help them develop effective strategies to accomplish their goals.

Establishing Yourself as a Coach

Step through the essential components of designing successful coaching strategies. Learn about the new client intake process and the hallmarks of achieving ongoing coaching success.

Certificate requirements

Requirements to enroll in this program are five years of professional work experience (in any field); an interest in working with people and helping others; and a mindset that supports success in the program, namely openness to learning through feedback and self-examination.
