Catching Fire: Strategies that Ignite an Everlasting Spark for All Writers

There are optional 1.5 CEUs for registered participants in the Area 3 Writing Project’s institute Catching Fire: Strategies that Ignite and Everlasting Spark for all Writers.
This work is focused on middle school students' unique needs and ways of learning.  Multiple lessons and strategies will be provided to help teachers plan for successful instruction in the Common Core State Standards. Topics include: demonstrating the power and effectiveness of the Writer's Notebook; practical strategies, activities and lessons to meet the rigorous Common Core State Standards (CCSS); numerous examples of informative, narrative and argumentative essays that elucidate CCSS expectations; and sharing and building units and lessons that include the vital components of the CCSS-- critical thinking, creating collaborative communities and career connections with rigor and relevance.
