Diversity in Film

This course is designed to awaken us through film, to a perception of life with which we may be unaccustomed, and promote diversity through mutual understanding. Through a variety of films, we will examine different facets of human experience, including gender, ability/disability, class, body image, sexual orientation and race. We’ll discuss the methods different directors use to express how multiple aspects impact each individual on a daily basis. These films strive to create an understanding of one another and move beyond simple recognition to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual. Films will include: Shallow Hal, Under the Blood-Red Sun, Weekend, Swept Away and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
