The New Governor and Legislature: Challenges and Opportunities

Retired State Senator Lois Wolk will share insights into a number of challenges and opportunities facing the new governor and legislature as we start the new year. One issue of special interest is the future of California’s most precious and most controversial resource—water. Senator Wolk has co-authored a successful statewide proposition and a number of laws that addressed various water topics, including supply, quality, flood control and protection of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. As an author of the End of Life Option Act, the University of California Firearms Violence Research Center Bill, and the Cache Creek Wild and Scenic Bill, she will offer an overview of these landmark issues in the Trump era. More broadly, she will discuss the new and continuing political forces at work at the Capitol and look ahead to 2020 in light of the November 2018 elections
