Overview of Environmental Statistics

If your work involves using and interpreting data, but your college statistics course is a distant memory, this class is for you. Designed for those who need to use or understand statistics but have not recently taken a statistics course, this refresher provides an overview of basic statistics with applications relevant to environmental issues. Topics include:

  • Descriptive statistics
  • Basics of confidence intervals
  • Basics of hypothesis tests
  • Parametric versus non-parametric tests
  • Linear regression

The course will focus on understanding concepts, not on computations. R Commander, a free statistical software, will be used for the computations, and examples will be used to illustrate the methods described in the course. Hands-on activities will enhance your understanding and your ability to apply what you learn.
