Gain an understanding of the characteristics of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and the implications for children’s learning, behavior and ability to process information. Three primary areas of impairment are examined (communication, socialization and restricted patterns of behavior), along with emotional regulation and sensorimotor differences that may impact children’s academic, social, self-help and play skills. Explore the latest research on potential causes, best practices for assessment and intervention, as well as current legal and ethical issues related to autism services.
