Aggie Square Groundbreaking Moves CPE One Step Closer to New Sacramento Campus

UC Davis officially broke ground yesterday on Aggie Square, its planned innovation hub on the Sacramento campus. The collaborative venture between UC Davis, the City of Sacramento and private industry will house research programs, classrooms, partners and public-facing programs that engage local communities and entrepreneurs. UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is an anchor tenant at Aggie Square.

“Aggie Square is a powerful platform for furthering our mission of helping adults advance their careers,” said CPE Dean Susan Catron. “Today’s groundbreaking brings us one step closer toward the expanded opportunities that Aggie Square enables for CPE and the employers and students we serve in this region.”

The groundbreaking kicks-off the first phase of construction, including a 250,000+ square-foot “lifelong learning” building that will serve as the front door for CPE and its Sacramento instructional hub. The building co-locates CPE with a comprehensive network of partners and programs dedicated to training for the next generation economy, and upskilling and reskilling working professionals across their careers.

“Workforce development is an important part of the Aggie Square vision and aligns perfectly with CPE’s mission,” said Catron. “Being part of an innovation ecosystem designed to diversify Sacramento’s economy will be transformational for our work, and transformational for the region in propelling responsible economic growth.”
