Online Applied Behavior Analysis Strategies and Interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Explore applied behavior analysis principles and how they can be used in an educational environment to teach various skills and support student behavior. Examine such strategies as positive reinforcement, teaching of functional-equivalent replacement behaviors, shaping, prompting, errorless learning, discrete trial teaching, as well as other naturalistic behavioral strategies. Apply the concepts and principles you learn in class through case studies and other interactive activities.

This course meets the qualifications for 30 hours of continuing education for MFTs, LPCCs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. UC Davis Extension provider number PCE577. 

This is not a self-paced course.  Students will progress through the course together.  Lessons will be posted one week at a time.  The previous week's lesson will remain available for the duration of the course.  Students who enroll after the start date of the course will have to contact the instructor regarding missed lessons. 

Prerequisites

Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders. May be taken concurrently.

Instructor(s)

Amber Fitzgerald, M.A., has worked with individuals from birth to adulthood with a variety of special needs, including autism spectrum disorders, emotional disturbance, behavioral challenges and moderate to severe disabilities, for 11 years. She has worked directly with students with autism and other behavioral/developmental challenges in both the public and nonpublic school systems as an in-home behavior technician, special educator, district behavior specialist and program specialist for students with ASD. Fitzgerald is a board-certified behavior analyst.
