Management Development: Effective Management Practices

Helping good managers become great leaders.

Become a successful team leader by exploring effective management practices and your role as a manager. Meet just one day a week for three weeks, and learn how to lead your team, communicate effectively with your team, and how to coach your team.

Establish solid foundational skills, and improve your understanding of how you can positively impact your team and facilitate their development. Learn to assess your communication style and practice giving feedback that enhances the performance of others. Become more valuable to your organization as you set norms and expectations and create a culture that supports team work.

New and mid-level managers will improve their ability to lead, manage and empower others in today’s increasingly complex and ever changing business environment. You will develop your own action plans for each of the three sessions:

The Manager’s Role

Examine and practice the key challenges you face as a manager, such as establishing expectations, creating a culture of accountability, coaching successfully and identifying your influences on motivation—all essential elements managers must have to properly lead their teams. Develop self-awareness, and create a clear direction for yourself as a manager.

Communicating for Results

Discover how to influence the thinking and behavior of others, particularly your team, but also your own supervisor. Assess your communication style, and learn to define effective communication and its barriers. Review your DISC profile and explore its four types (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness). Hone in on the critical role of providing useful, day-to-day feedback to enhance your team’s performance and obtain results that meet your intended goals.

The Manager as a Team Leader

Learn to recognize the characteristics of effective teams and the strategies to facilitate their development. Improve your understanding of the dynamics of successful teams, and learn strategies for motivating, developing and strengthening your team. Simulations and scenarios reinforce your learning about team dynamics, and the impact your leadership can have on your team.
