The Protestants: 500 Years of History: Part 1

Just over 500 years ago, a stubborn German monk challenged the authority of the pope with a radical new vision of what Christianity could be. The revolution Martin Luther unwittingly set in motion toppled governments, upended social norms and transformed millions of people’s understanding of their relationship with God. Learn about some of the men and women who defined this quarrelsome faith—some of whom turned to their newly accessible Bibles to justify bold acts of political opposition, while others used their insights to support a new understanding of how they should live. Protestantism is a religion of progress— restless, relentless and combative. Its enduring radicalism comes from its willingness to question every form of authority and tradition. In many ways Protestants created America and defined its special brand of entrepreneurial diligence. Gain insights into the dynamic history of the Protestant faith and its lasting effect on the modern age.
