Examine phenomenological and atomistic mechanisms of mass transport in materials. Discuss the effect of heat treatments on the final microstructure/composition and how to control parameters during synthesis and processing, such as chemical and physical vapor deposition, crystal growth, sintering, coarsening and phase transformations, to achieve desirable microstructures.
