What is a digital badge?
A digital badge is a graphic verification of the skills you have mastered after successfully completing a specific course or program. As part of our commitment to providing you with the tools necessary to achieve your professional goals we have partnered with Credly to provide you with a digital version of your credentials.
Digital badges are a great way to share your educational achievements and new competencies with employers, colleagues, friends and family via social platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Digital badging is rapidly becoming the new standard by which adult learners visually communicate their ongoing professional development and commitment to lifelong learning.
We currently offer three kinds of badges, depending on the course or program you complete: "Skill" badges, which confirm mastery of a specific job skill, "Metaskill" badges, which indicate mastery of a range of skills within a specific area and "Certificate" badges, which indicate completion of a certificate program and mastery of the subject area.
How does my certification get displayed as a badge?
We have partnered with Credly to translate the learning outcomes you’ve demonstrated into a badge, issued and managed through Credly. The technology Credly uses is based on the Open Badge Standards maintained by IMS Global. This enables you to manage, share and verify your competencies digitally.
What are the benefits of earning a badge?
Obtaining a digital badge from UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education signifies that you have committed yourself to a quality learning experience from a recognized leader in professional development.
Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide a quick and convenient way for your employer to confirm your newly acquired skills and knowledge at a glance. Digital badges can also assist you during a job search by providing employers and peers concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of.
How do I qualify for a badge?
If a course or program is available for badging and you have demonstrated capability according to specific criteria established for the badge, you will automatically become eligible to claim a badge for that course. Once your achievement of the badge standard has been confirmed, you will receive an email notification from Credly (firstname.lastname@example.org) with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account.
