Management and Leadership Development

Strong management and people skills give you a competitive edge. Our management and leadership classes are taught by expert instructors and will help you improve your communication, conflict management, coaching and leadership skills. They are taught in our convenient downtown Sacramento training facility.

Capable managers are essential in nearly all industries—small and large, from high- to low-tech. Projected job growth for those in leadership positions is 6 percent from 2014 through 2024. As new organizations emerge and existing ones expand, more managers will be needed. The median annual salary in 2014 was $97,230—the highest among all major occupational groups.*

Our classrooms are conveniently located in downtown Sacramento at the Sutter Square Galleria.

Supervisory Skills Program

Knowledgeable supervisors who communicate well, know when and how to delegate and prioritize, and can mediate conflict are exceedingly valuable to any organization. If you are a new supervisor or have not had formal supervisory or management training, these two series of courses provide you with the skills needed in today’s workplace.

These half-day sessions allow you to attend training in the morning and return to work that afternoon, ready to immediately put into practice what you learned. You can take the courses individually or together as a series (and save $150 when you take them as a series). Each series consists of five half-day courses that span the needs of today’s supervisors and managers.

Management Development

Helping good managers become great leaders

Management training is essential to becoming an effective leader. Our management training courses focus on the critical skills you need for effective team management, such as how to impact the performance of your team, how to successfully coach your team, and practical skills for assessing your team.

These management courses will help you discover and develop your unique strengths, including how to improve your communication skills using the personal DiSC assessment, how to create a significantly more productive and profitable work environment, and how to manage data strategically.

Experienced instructors, with expertise in management, guide discussions throughout these management courses to help you improve your ability to lead, manage and empower others.

UC Davis Executive Leadership Program

Develop your ability to confidently guide your organization. This program is intended for senior managers and executives who want to solidify their roles as leaders and lead more effectively.

Participants use a 360-degree assessment to evaluate their own leadership practices and receive important feedback on how others perceive them. They also receive two coaching sessions—the first after the 360-degree assessment, and the second once the program is completed. Each of the eight sessions is taught by individual experts in their fields. Topics include:

  • The Leader as Communicator
  • Leadership Practices to Increase Effectiveness
  • Leading with Emotional Intelligence
  • Leadership Through Innovation
  • Leading Change
  • Case Study: The Evolution of Waste Connections
  • Values, Commitments and Organizational Momentum

This program is by application only and consists of eight weekly seminars offered March–May each year.
