The vehicle miles traveled (VMT) conditions of SB 743 became effective on July 1, 2020, requiring the use of VMT as the primary metric of transportation impact analysis under CEQA. While a measure of VMT has been used in air quality and greenhouse gas analysis for years, its application as a metric of transportation impacts is new and technical practices are still being developed. This course has been developed to assist staff from local jurisdictions, state agencies and private CEQA practitioners in better understanding how to apply these new standards to their projects.
Through lecture, hands-on exercises and engaging Q&A sessions, you will learn the fundamentals of SB 743 requirements and explore the quantitative underpinnings of VMT analysis. By the end of the course, you will fully understand how VMT requirements apply to your projects and will know how to develop practical VMT practices and mitigation measures that are consistent with CEQA expectations.
- Apply SB 743 standards to your projects
- Analyze traffic impacts using VMT
- Formulate significance thresholds per CEQA standards
- Develop effective measures for VMT mitigation
Skills You Will Gain
